ODESSA -- A vehicle explosion in Odessa is being blamed in part on snowy, icy roads.

The accident happened around 6:30 AM at Interstate 20 and South Grant Avenue in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell Big 2 that a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was pulling a flatbed trailer hit a patch of ice, flipped over into the westbound lanes, and hit a Ford F-250 pickup truck.

The pickup truck that was hit in the crash -- which had been heading westbound on Interstate 20 -- caught fire during the incident.

The Ford F-150 (that was pulling the trailer) was carrying tubular rods and blasting caps, which are used in oilfield.

The tubular rods and blasting caps spilled all over the median during the crash.

Crews closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 20 in the area for more than 4 hours as a bomb squad cleaned up the explosive items.

"It's not one of those deals where it's like it took special equipment or something to pick it up," Odessa Police Cpl. Sherrie Carruth told Big 2. "The thing of it is, is that they're used in the oil field and the propensity for them to be volatile is there. So you just don't leave them out there on the roadway or for someone to run over them or something like that."

The drivers of the Ford F-150 -- 45-year-old
Armando Marin of Monahans -- a passenger in the Ford F-150 -- 25-year-old Manuel Lyles of Monahans -- and the driver of the Ford F-250 -- 50-year-old Tommy Stoglin of Odessa -- were all taken to Medical Center Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash.
