MIDLAND--January 6 is Three Kings Day. It's a holiday often celebrated by holding special parties and serving special desserts commemorating Jesus Christ's persecution as he fled biblical King Herrod.

The Martinez Mexican Bakery in Midland makes the special dessert King's Cake. The cakes are colorful, but many say the real treat lies inside. The Martinez family bakes three small figurines into the cake, and according to tradition the people that find the figurine in their slice of cake will be blessed throughout the year.

Luis Gomez works in the family business at the Martinez bakery. He said, "A lot of people have lost sight of it. That's why it's such an important tradition that we need to keep sending down generation to generation so it doesn't die off, because the meaning is so profound and so deep I feel like it's very important."

To keep the day special, the bakery only offers the cake three days out of the year.
