GM is recalling nearly 55,000 SUVs, trucks and vans because of a problem that could cause the vehicle to roll away while parked.

G-M says the affected vehicles, all manufactured in late 2012, may have been built with a broken parking lock cable or a defective part in the steering column.

Those flaws could allow the car to slip out of "park" after the driver has walked away.

The recall includes certain Cadillac Escalades, Chevy Suburbans and Tahoes, GMC Yukons and Sierras, along with other GM vehicles.

So far, the car maker says it knows of no crashes or injuries related to the defects.

GM says it expects about one in 1-thousand recalled vehicles will have the defect.

Most of those are thought to be currently sitting on dealer lots, or still on their way to dealerships.

GM will begin sending out letters to owners of affected vehicles on January 22nd, and will replace the steering column as needed.
