Obama to Nominate Hagel for Sec. of Defense

President Obama plans to name former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel as his nominee to become the next Defense Secretary today.

The president telephoned Hagel on Sunday, according to administration officials.

Some lawmakers are voicing opposition to his nomination.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham expressed concern Sunday about Hagel's past positions on Iran and Israel.

Hagel will also have to overcome vocal opposition from pro-Israel groups who object to his stance on Iran and Hamas.

He has also faced opposition from gay rights groups for a comment he made in 1998.
