ANDREWS -- Work continues on a truck reliever route around Andrews.

Andrews city officials tell Big 2 that the 13.1 mile route is about 75 percent complete.

The new route is expected to open in October 2013.

Andrews County voters passed a 25 cent sales tax increase to fund the route in the May 2011 elections.

The City of Andrews later came to an interlocal agreement with Andrews County to build the route about a mile outside the city limits.

Andrews city leaders will start a competition to name the truck reliever route later this month, with the winner getting a $50 gift card to the Andrews restaurant of their choice.
