The New Semester In MISD Brings Excitement For Teachers And Administrators Alike

MIDLAND -- The first day of the Spring semester is an exciting time for MISD, as they prepare to finish several planning and construction goals before the end of January.
"Actually, I was ready to come back, I was ready to go. There's a lot going on in the second semester and we're hitting the ground running," Midland High Associate Principal Renee Aldrin told Big 2.
For the most part, it sounds like the first day of the Spring semester went off without a hitch in Midland ISD.
"It was perfect today, you know, typical. We had several new enrollees and everything went just the way you would expect it to," Aldrin continued.
While the Winter break allows some great time with family and friends, there's an electricity to coming back to school.
"When I get back up here and get with the students then I get re-energized and ready to go all over again," MISD teacher Rulene Berry said.
It's also an exciting time for the district, as they get back to work preparing for some upcoming construction and renovation projects, funded by the recent $163 million bond.
Superintendent Doctor Ryder Warren confirmed that the district is on schedule, and has completed all their goals for December.
For January, the district plans to complete the following:
1. MISD will complete recommendations for contracts with architectural firms for assigned building projects, and will bring those recommendations to the school board .
2. The district will release requests for qualifications to interested contractors.
3. The MISD Technology Department will research consultants to draw up improvements for the district.
4. All bond projects will be assigned to selected architectural firms, so the building and technology design process can begin.
There is a lot to complete this month, and the district is hard at work to get it all completed.
Teachers tell us they like the direction the district is headed.
"That's what it's about is the kids; taking care of the needs of the students and doing what we need to do to be sure that that's happening," Berry said.
This month's set of goals represent an important step in completing the construction process, since actual construction can not begin until contractors and architectural firms are selected.
The entire renovation project is expected to take about 3 years to complete.
