MIDLAND -- The West Texas Public Radio held the first company sponsored event of the new year Saturday at the Wagner Noel in Midland.

A special concert titled "The Evening of Classical Music" featured soprano Katherine Dain and pianist Jeffrey Grossman.

It was an intimate occasion with viewers close enough to nearly reach out and touch the performers.

West Texas Radio General Manager Tom Michael said he's looking forward to more events like this and getting the community more involved with public radio.

"We're here to talk about the community, we're increasing our news staff and we're also doing a non-profit of the month featuring our area non-profit they're doing great work," said Michael.

The station re-launched with new ownership in 2012. In 2013, the station 91.3 FM can boast a larger news staff, greater signal and new programming.
