Odessa Police say that a bobcat has been reportedly been spotted in the 3200 block of West 3rd Street for the second time in three weeks.
The bobcat is reportedly stalking prairie dog downs in the area between West 3rd Street, West 5th Street and West Loop 338 (west of Loop 338).
Officers say that there are acres of undeveloped land in the area that could harbor bobcats and coyotes -- both of which hunt prairie dogs as a food source.
Police add that prairie dogs in the area will have to be moved to prevent predators like these from entering nearby populated areas.
The bobcat that was recently spotted is reportedly in good condition, and officers say it hasn't posed a threat to anyone living in the area.
However, police are warning people living in the area to keep their pets secured and keep an eye on their children if they play outside.
Animal Control officers have placed traps ion the area, and they're warning citizens to avoid tampering with the traps.
If residents encounter a trapped animal, they should avoid tampering with it and instead call Odessa Animal Control at (432) 333-3641.
