Jail Hanging Death Under Investigation In Hobbs, NM

HOBBS, NM -- An inmate is found hanging in his jail cell in Hobbs, NM.

    Hobbs Police say that Rene Van Der Pol hung was found hanging in a single cell at the Hobbs Detention Center around 10:50 AM Tuesday.

    Police say that Van Der Pol, 48, was arrested on January 18th.

    Van Der Pol was arraigned on charges of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography on Tuesday morning, and his bond was listed as $750,000.

    Police believe that Van Der Pol hung himself.

    However, Van Der Pol's body has been sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque, NM for an autopsy.
