ANDREWS--Bull Fighter Cody Hollums made his first fundraiser appearance since being released from a Lubbock rehabilitation center following a severe head injury.

Hollums was injured in October while protecting a bull rider when he fell ultimately being kicked in the head by a bull.

"The bull ran over me and as he ran over me he just, with his back feet as he was going over me he just kicked me in the side of the head and it bounced my head off the ground," said Hollums.

Since the injury, Hollums has had to spend several months in doctor's care as he healed. During that time his family and friends organized multiple fundraisers to go toward Hollums' expenses.

Saturday, "Fight" Strong Team Roping For Cody Hollums benefit was held at the Ace Arena in Andrews.

In an exclusive interview, Hollums told Big 2 that he considers himself a small town boy. He's shocked at the local and national support he's received since his injury.

Hollums spent just over a week in a coma, he's had to work on rebuilding his memory and even learn how to walk all over again. All those days in the hospital weakened his muscles.

"That doctor said for every day you lay in the bed like that it takes 10 days to get it back," said Hollums.

However, despite the challenges, the support made his work even harder to improve.

Terry Glover, Hollums family friend and roping event organizer said, "Everybody made donations and everybody wanted to help and it's just phenomenal the way people come together when someone needs them."

Glover said Hollums grew up in the rodeo, horses and bull lifestyle and support from family and friends are to help him go on with life.

Even though Hollums grew up in rodeo, he said he's not sure if he'll get back out in the bull pit.

"If I don't get back to craving it like I used to, then no I won't do it, and plus it'll be pretty selfish of me to start fighting bulls again after what everybody's done for me," said Hollums.

Hollums said he'll just keep recuperating and for now remain a spectator.
