GREENWOOD -- A surprise church donation has allowed 40,000 meals to go out to hungry West Texans.

The Greenwood Church of Christ church made a $10,000 donation to the West Texas Food Bank on Monday.

The non-profit says the donation was complete unexpected but greatly appreciated.

"Every dollars that is donated to us can provide four meals to a hungry family," Rodney Hall of the West Texas Food Bank told Big 2. "So basically what the Greenwood Church of Christ just did is provide 40,000 meals to hungry families in the Permian Basin."

The West Texas Food bank covers 19 counties throughout West Texas.

The West Texas Food Bank serves 180,000 different people a year by providing about 9 million meals annually.
