MIDLAND -- Midland has seen a huge amount of growth in recent years, but many are wondering if the growth will last.

West Texas business leaders tried to tackle that question during Tuesday's State of the Economy Luncheon, sponsored by the Midland Chamber of Commerce.

Representatives from Concho Resources, Chevron, and First Capital Bank talked about the current economic boom in West Texas.

Business leaders stated that they believe the boom will last for decades.

Representatives from XCOR Aerospace also talked about the company's decision to bring its research center to Midland.

"It's looking great," XCOR Aerospace Chief Operating Officer Andrew Nelson told Big 2. "Midland is an exciting community. It's growing. It's got a wonderful spirit. And I think it's wonderful that the city fathers have thought ahead and said we need to diversify our economy for the future, and we have the funds to invest now."

Business leaders also stated that Midland faces decisions whether to improve infrastructure (such as housing and roads) or to risk slowing the area's growth.
