Rep. Mike Conaway Hoping That Texas Water Decisions Will Stay On State, Local Level

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- On Texas Water Day, U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX) is asking that water conservation decisions in Texas be made by state and local levels of government.

Conaway spoke to several Texans visiting Washington on Wednesday -- which is also Texas Water Day.

During the speech, Conaway highlighted the need to need to keep conservation oversight and decision making at the state and local level (instead of the federal level).

Texas Water Day -- which is organized by the Texas Water Conservation Association -- was initiated so that Texans could look into water issues facing the Lone Star State.

Texas lawmakers are looking into implementing a comprehensive State Water Plan to deal with dwindling water levels in reservoirs statewide.

The proposed legislation has taken on new urgency, after climatologists told legislators that severe drought conditions are expected to return to Texas in 2013.
