New Mexico State Police Cracking Down On Commercial Drivers In Eddy, Lea Counties

HOBBS, NM -- State police are cracking down on commercial drivers in southeast New Mexico.

    New Mexico State Police ran a crackdown operation in Eddy and Lea counties on the week of January 28th

    The week-long operation was designed to help cut down on fatal crashes in southeast New Mexico.

    Police say that an increase in oil production in Eddy and Lea Counties has brought more commercial traffic to the area.

    The increase in commercial traffic has led to more crashes in both counties.

    Officers issued 107 citations to driver in the enforcement crackdown.

    102 of those citations went to commercial drivers for everything from speeding to equipment violations and improper licenses.

    Police also removed 24 commercial vehicles and 12 commercial drivers from roads in Eddy and Lea County roads because of serious safety violations.

    New Mexico State Police continue to investigate several commercial carriers and their safety practices.
