Former Ector County Correctional Facility Employees Plead Not Guilty

ODESSA -- Several former Ector County Correctional Center workers have pleaded not guilty to bribery charges.

    Twelve former guards and one former food service worker at the privately owned corrections center waived their arraignments and pleaded not guilty on Thursday.

    The 13 former employees were indicted and arrested on January 30th.

The accused former jail employees who pleaded not guilty are:

Jovanna Marie Olivarez of Odessa,
Matthew Ryan Wlliams of Oessa,
Dennis Earl Newsome of Austin,
Charlette Smith of Odessa,
Nancy Torres Morales of Odessa,
Valerie Ann Arenivas of Odessa,
Gabriel Angel Navarette of Odessa,
Jennifer Armida Lopez of Odessa,
Jessica Lucia Smith of Monahans,
Jazmine Desiree Cruz of Odessa,
Jonathon Wayne Meza of Odessa,
Barbara Jean Garrett of Andrews,
Ashley Dawn Clark of Crane.

    The 13 former jail employees were accused of smuggling in items such as cigarettes, marijuana, cell phones and chargers to inmates.

    If convicted, all face up to 15 years in federal prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
