MIDLAND -- A new same-day healthcare clinic is now open in Midland.

The Texas Tech Physican's Midland Clinic aims to provide care for acute illness and minor injuries, while returning patients to their normal routine as quickly as possible.

The clinic is located on north N Street, near Midland Memorial Hospital.

A collaboration between the Texas Tech School of Medicine and the Texas Tech School of Allied Health Sciences' Physician Assistant Program has helped bring the clinic into existence.

Health officials say the new clinic will help meet the growing needs of the Permian Basin by allowing new patients to find care quickly and by minimizing wait times.

"When you are sick you want to be seen the same day," Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Regional School of Medicine Dean, Gary Ventolini, M.D. told Big 2. "You don't want to go to the emergency room and spend a long time. So we would be helping the hospitals to de-clog the emergency rooms from visits that are unnecessary for them but are necessary for the patients."

The clinic houses three exam rooms and quotes an average wait time of 15 minutes or less.

The clinic is now open from 1 PM to 5 PM from Monday-Friday. However, officials say that the clinic's hours will be expanded as volume dictates.
