MIDLAND-- It's been almost 30 years since Midland county Sheriff Gary Painter claimed his title.

And in that time, he says he's seen drastic changes when it comes to school safety.

"Things have changed," said Sheriff Painter. "People have changed; our environment is changing every day."

That's why Sheriff Painter was excited to sit down and talk school security with Midland school administrators, and a handful of other emergency responders.

"There's a lot of things that we see that we might have recommendations on," explained Sheriff Painter.

This is the first time a meeting like this has been held in the Tall City, but MISD Superintendent Dr. Ryder Warren tells us it probably won't be the last.

"It doesn't matter whether the kids are public school, private school, charter school," said Dr. Warren. "We all, as a community, have to work together to make sure our kids are safe."

Dr. Warren says one of the main objectives from the sit-down is to make sure everyone is prepared to handle an emergency, no matter where it happens.

"The coordination with our emergency services, I think, is the most important thing," stated Dr. Warren.

Sheriff painter says he's hoping for "success, prevention, adaptation to a situation," to keep everyone out of harm's way.

The meeting included MISD, Greenwood, and several other Midland private and charter schools.

All in all about 40 people were there.
