By: Dylan Brooks
Updated: February 25, 2013
LAMESA -- The Lamesa City Council has narrowed down the number of candidates for the city's soon-to-be-vacated city manager position.

Council members discussed applicants for the position in a closed session on February 19th.

According to The Lamesa Press-Reporter, city council members determined that 16 of the applicants didn't qualify for consideration.

The remaining 20 applicants met qualifications (including Texas residency) set in the Lamesa City Charter.

The applicant who is hired on will replace longtime Lamesa City Manager Fred Vera.

Vera -- who has served as Lamesa City Manager since June 16, 2003 -- is planning on retiring on May 30th.
