Midland -- Disabled American Veterans members take pride in helping fellow vets in times of need. Having to turn someone away is their biggest fear.

"It's sad when funds get so very low that you tell veterans...we don't have very much money. We can't help," said DAV chapter Commander S. Wayne Joiner, Tall City Chapter 58.

But running solely on donations, fundraising money and membership dues, it's a dreaded reality. One they hopefully won't face for quite some time after CanElson Drilling donated $15,000 to their chapter. It was the largest donation they've ever received and money they say will be put to very good use.

"We try to supply as far as rent, food. We've even helped fix cars," said Joiner.

Unlike many organizations, as long as the funds are available, no veteran who comes to the DAV seeking help is turned away which is why CanElson wanted to give them the donation.

"They help all veterans. All races. No discrimination on time of war," stressed Jeremy Roberts, CanElson Drilling (US) Inc.

The donation recipients couldn't be more grateful and look forward to helping as many veterans they can in the future.

"This money will help many veterans. Not just one or two," added Chapter 58 JAG officer Tom Dempsey. "It will help many, many, many."

NOTE: CanElson also gave $15,000 to the Marine Corp League who unfortunately couldn't make it to the check presentation due to icy conditions in the Panhandle.
