Alpine Officials Who Misused Funds Will Keep Jobs, Repay Taken Funds

ALPINE -- Alpine city officials who misused funds won't lose their jobs.

    The Alpine Avalanche reports that employees who recently took cash advances will have to pay them back immediately.

    However, the Alpine City Council has determined that the employees they won't be instantly terminated.

    Alpine Financial Director Ricky Chavez will have to immediately repay the City of Alpine $9,000.

    Auditors recently determined that Chavez he wrote himself a $9,000 check from Alpine accounts.

    During their February 26th meeting, Alpine City Council members told Alpine City Attorney John Armstrong to contact proper authorities about the misuse of funds as he deems necessary.
   
    Alpine City Council members also passed a resolution requiring two signatures on all checks written from city accounts.

    The first verification signature will have to be made by the Alpine City Manager.

    The second signature will have to come from the Alpine mayor or the Alpine Mayor Pro-Tem.
