PECOS COUNTY -- A Pecos County Sheriff's deputy makes a large drug bust at an Interstate 10 rest stop.

The Fort Stockton Pioneer reports that a deputy made the discovery when they checked on a stranded motorist at the rest stop near mile marker 308 of Interstate 10 on February 15th.

Deputies say the driver of the stranded vehicle -- Lucas Smith of San Antonio -- was highly intoxicated when they arrived on the scene.

Deputies searched Smith's vehicle, and they reportedly found $54,000 cash and crystal meth inside.

Deputies arrested Smith, 23, at the scene.

Smith is now charged with possession of crystal meth.

Meanwhile, the Pecos County Sheriff's Office seized the money and drugs.

The Drug Enforcement Agency is now investigating the incident.
