Participants went through the motions of what to do following a disaster and even learned how to better evaluate damage and different ways to work with distraught homeowners and victims.
"In the scenario that we presented this morning when we did our debrief, approximately 100 homes were damaged by a tornado. So my team is doing a damage assessment for these two blocks and we are estimated that there are about 33 homes here in this area," said Julia Dailey with the Red Cross.
Dailey said training is essential since nearly 95 percent of their staff is volunteers. Often during times of great disaster, volunteers are sent all across the country to give aid.
