ODESSA -- In 2 years time, Bowie Junior High will become a middle school.

Monday night, it was a meeting place for parents to discuss their ideas and concerns for the new middle school model for ECISD.

ECISD Chief of Staff Dr. H.T. Sanchez was on hand to provide the parents with more information about the new model.

Edward Ramirez is a parent who wanted to make sure that ECISD would have the right staff on hand to help the students, who will be facing more educational challenges at an earlier age.

"Obviously, even though their classes will still consist of sixth graders...But yet, their environment...They will need to have the mature teachers in place to help them through those rough areas," parent Edward Ramirez said.

When asked, Ramirez did say that he was satisfied with Dr. Sanchez's answers, and he is a supporter of the move.

"I think it's a transaction that needed to be done actually years ago," Ramirez continued.

It wasn't just parents speaking up either.

Darrian Morris, a 7th grader who will be a part of the new system, gave some ideas on how to improve the experience of the 6th graders as they move to middle school.

"When they move the sixth graders up, they should have the counselors do rounds around the campuses," Morris shared with us.

He knows the importance of having  a counselor around and he thinks if they perform rounds around the campuses, they'll  stay informed on what's going on and create an easier transition for some middle school students who might need someone to talk to.

Dr. Sanchez mentioned that the biggest concerns he heard centered around staffing and making sure that students are taken care of in this transitional phase.

He added most parents are open to the idea of a middle school model, knowing their input will be used in the decision making.

The rest of the informational sessions are as follows:

Monday, March 25 at Hood Jr. High

Monday, April 1 at New Tech Odessa

Wednesday, April 3 at Permian High School

Monday, April 8 at Crockett Jr High

Monday, April 22 at Ector Jr. High
