Damaging Winds Creating Plenty Of Work For West Texas Roofers

MIDLAND -- You may have heard the winds blowing through Monday morning, howling past your windows.
It was the latest in a string of wind events that have blown through, Causing some headaches for local home owners.
It's a West Texas staple: howling winds.
It seems like they've been a constant companion for the last week and the blustery conditions are causing problems.
Charles Terry with Charles Terry Construction tells us his phone has been ringing off the hook over the last week.
"We had about 115 calls that day. It's graduated up to about 400 and some odd calls at this moment," Terry said.
This has kept Terry's crews busy all day every day since last Monday.
"Nah, we're working 7 days a week. Our salesmen have been working all the way into the dark. Our crews are working into the dark," Terry continued.
Last Monday (2/25) created a huge backlog of work for the roofing company, but Terry told us that this Monday's (3/4) overnight wind storm exacerbated the damage already in place.
"Same customers have called us back and said it's twice as bad as what you saw the first time, so you need to come back out and look at it again," Terry said.
Nobody was safe from the gale force winds either.
Terry says there isn't a lot you can do to protect your roof other than buying top of the line roofs, but even industry leading technology couldn't save the roof Terry was looking at.
"This roof we're gonna look at here today: this is the top of the line normal roof that is put on in a composition and it just couldn't withstand the wind," Terry said.
For Terry, this is the worst wind storm he's seen in his time out here.
With top gusts of 62 miles per hour, he says he's never seen stronger gusts in the Midland/Odessa area.
According to Terry, most weather events will bring in about 60 service calls, so over 400 damaged roofs can tell you how strong the winds have been.
