MIDLAND -- Rainfall and snowfall in the Permian Basin and the Trans-Pecos region earlier this year has effectively wiped out severe drought conditions in the area -- for now.

The latest Texas Drought Monitor map -- which came out on March 5th -- shows that only the northern and eastern Permian Basin, and the mountains to the southeast and west of Midland-Odessa are still officially experiencing drought conditions.

In fact, much of the Trans-Pecos region is not currently experiencing any forms of drought.

The results of the most recent Texas Drought Monitor marks a complete turnaround from Spring 2011 -- when nearly the entire area was in the exceptional drought category.
