"We're going into Chicago. We're gonna spend a day there, then we're taking a train into Indianapolis and we'll be there for three to four days immersed in music and having a great time," said Lee Director of Bands Randy Storie.
The invite to the music festival was granted based on a recorded performance of last year's Lee Rebel Band. Even so, Storie said this year's kids have just as much talent.
"I'm so proud of the kids. That's what it's all about, I'm just proud of the kids," said Storie.
Storie has been director of bands at Lee for more than 30 years and he knows talent.
"I think they're gonna do just an outstanding job."
The band will travel with their director along with other notable west Texas artist for the prestigious performance.
"Just having the opportunity to play in front of their peers, the audience will be made up of students and teachers and musicians from throughout the country," said Storie.
For many students, this trip will be like none other.
"A lot of these students have never flown and not hardly any of them at all have been on a train and to get to go to Chicago and Indianapolis is a big deal thing."
It's a big deal that was possible through sheer talent and massive support for the Midland community.
Storie said, "Each kid had to raise money for the trip, plus the city of midland, a lot of wonderful people donated money on behalf of us so we can take this trip."
