ODESSA -- Employees at the Ector County Cemetery will soon be making more money.

The Ector County Commissioners approved overtime pay for the 4 maintenance employees that work at the Ector County Cemetery on South Dixie Boulevard during their March 11th meeting.

The cemetery has lost several workers recently to higher-paying jobs in the oil field.

When the cemetery is fully staffed, it has 7 maintenance workers.

However, the cemetery currently only has 4 maintenance workers.

"I'm hopeful that this will keep the employees that we have," Ector County Judge Susan Redford told Big 2. "Some of the ones that we have left have been with us for many years and are very loyal to the county and extremely loyal to the director who's done a fantastic job. So I hope this will keep us at least status quo. And then we're really going to have to bump up our marketing techniques to try to attracted new people to come into these positions."

The approved overtime pay will be given for the remainder of this budget year.
