Midland Listed As Fastest Growing City In United States

MIDLAND -- As the economic boom continues in the Permian Basin, the Tall City is exhibiting the highest growth rate in the country.

    The United States Census Bureau reports that Midland had the highest growth rate among metropolitan areas in the United States between July 1, 2011 and July 1, 2012.

    The Tall City saw a remarkable 4.6 percent growth rate in the survey period.

    Meanwhile, Odessa (3.46 percent growth) was fifth on the list, and Austin-Round Rock (3.08 percent) was seventh.

    Andrews (4.7 percent growth) ranked fourth in growth rate among U.S. micropolitan areas during the same time period, while Midland County (4.7 percent growth) saw the tenth-highest growth rate among U.S. counties.
