Hundreds gathered at the Commemorative Air Force Museum today to honor those who died protecting our country's freedom.

Whether it be a family member or a friend who died, somehow we are all affected by this day. Congressman Mike Conaway said it best at today's CAF event ‘Today is about the value of the lives lost on the alter of freedom’.

"It's a very moving, it’s a very moving day for us to remember all those that gave their lives for us," says Lyn Fite who is a member of the Sun Country Gentlemen Barber Shoppers and also a war veteran.

"I was on active duty from 1961 until 1969 with a year reserve and 3 year inactive, and I'm a Vietnam vet," explains Fite, who along with many other people in the crowd say Memorial Fay is very emotional, but, it's also a very proud day.

"I'm from the Vietnam era and I had a few friends that I lost in Vietnam and I think about them and I think about being free," says Sandy Stillwell who was at the event.

"Whether you served in the military or not, if you think about those who laid their lives on that alter of freedom and what they gave up and didn't get to do that you and I enjoyed, today is that special day," says Congressman Mike Conaway.

A special day and personal day for most. We found one man in the crowd whose father paid to have Fifi restored in the 1970s.

"The crews in honor of the restoration named the airplane Fifi after my mother, so my mother is Fifi.  So, it's a proud day to see her come out again.  I wish my father was here, especially on Memorial Day," says Neils Agather.

The CAF turned out to be a great place to honor Memorial Day. A huge crowd showed up along with several keynote speakers, including Congressman Conaway. Also at the event, people could go inside the planes and walk through the museum, all free of charge.
