In the next 3 days we could experience some of the hottest temperatures we've seen all year. Triple digits heat!

When you hear it's going to be in the hundreds, you can't help but think about the pool! But, you also need to think about being safe. Hot weather is nothing to turn a cold shoulder to. It can be very dangerous. The best way to stay safe is being prepared.

When it comes to the heat, everyone is at risk. But, following some common sense practices will keep you protected.

"You gotta make sure you drink plenty of water.  Even though you don't feel thirsty, you have to drink water," explains Sal Garcia with the Midland Health Department.

Heat related illnesses can creep up on you. But, there are some signs to look for.

"You could be feeling not so good, nauseated maybe a little, not be able to concentrate like you should," says Garcia.

If you're someone who works outside, don't over do it. Take plenty of breaks. Another thing to consider is that the temperature is measured in the shade. So a place like downtown Midland is going to be a lot hotter.  The sun has the opportunity to bounce of all the buildings and of course the concrete and that generate more heat.

This same concept applies to your car, metal attracts the sun. So don't leave you kids or pets in the car when you're running errands.

"While you think you’re going in the store for 5 minutes or so its 105 degrees, but it's going to be 140 in the car," explains Garcia.

Other things to remember:
Sun screen and long sleeves if you have to be outside for a while.
Plan your day.
Do your outdoor activities early in the morning or after the sun goes down when it’s a lot cooler.
