Is Milam's Principal Being Wrongfully Fired?

Some
of the parents, teachers, and students of Ben Milam Elementary in
“We just want him to stay principal
because we really believe that he helps our kids, he does homework hunts, if
the kids don't have pop tarts he makes sure they have them, he just goes above
and beyond," said parent Miste Badger.
Students said Miller is always there for
them when they need him.
“He protects us and takes care of us, and
he solves problems and keeps us from making bad choices," said Tatiana
Villa, a first grader at Milam.
Albert Gonzalez’s son is a third grader at
Milam. He said Miller is an excellent principal and he’s worried his son won’t
get the attention he needs to succeed if Miller is replaced.
"Mr. Perez received an award this
afternoon here at this board meeting; I just don't know understand if he
realizes that the award he received is because of people like Mr. Miller,” said
Gonzalez.
Parents said it’s unclear why the school
district is allegedly letting Miller go.
"All that we know is that he's
contract is not really up. I don't know why they are trying to push him out. We
hear that it's about him not being bilingual. But he's been in Milam 17 years,
and hadn't been bilingual17 years," said Badger.
The district said tonight wasn’t an appropriate
time to comment. They were having a positive meeting, after finding out several of the kids in
the district improved their reading skills. Miller’s supporters said they
are going to try to get on the agenda of a future board meeting. So they can
speak, and try to get an explanation.
Miller thanked all his supporters for
sticking by him.
“I appreciate it and I love everyone one
of them," he said.
