Patriotism and American pride flooded the streets of Reeves County today. A parade kicked off their annual Fourth of July celebration.

“It’s so much fun. We always look forward to it every year," said Laura Rodriguez, a parade-goer.

About 3,000 people attended the parade this year.

"It’s bigger than it was last year, said parade- goer Clint Stewart. “It’s more activity, there's lots more horses this year and a lot more floats and things like that." “It gives everyone the opportunity to bond and have fun and show the kids what family is all about," said another parade-goer.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White also had the chance to show West Texans what he's all about. White marched in the parade and later talked with voters during the Reeves County Posse Rodeo BBQ.

"A lot of people you know want there to be a good economy, better jobs for the real future,” said White.

Jobs are a big concern in Reeves County; their unemployment rate is 11.1%; it’s the highest in the Basin.

“I can't tell you just cause I'm elected everyone all of a sudden will have a job. But, I will tell you I know what it takes to attract businesses," explained White.

All the money raised during the BBQ will go back into the community.

"We use it to raise money for scholarships and we try to promote horsemanship with our local youth and other various projects,” said Cody West, a member of the Reeves County Sheriff Posse.

White also met with voters and city officials in Fort Stockton today. Also, the famous Pecos Rodeo starts today.
