Two weeks ago, MPD Sgt. Brian Rackow was seriously injured trying to dismantle an explosive devise at the Midland Police Department Training Facility. The community rallied together today to do something nice for that have helped him: they held a blood drive.

The strong bonds of brotherhood shared between MPD officers and detectives were visible; in full force they donated blood to support Sgt. Rackow.

“We are a very tight-knit family and when one of us is hurt, not just our department, but any law enforcement officer; we come together to help that individual, their family," said MPD Sgt. Ben Chavez.

Sgt. Chavez said the 13-year veteran is doing much better, but still needs rest.

“He was my sergeant. He is in need and he has always helped me when I needed help. So, I figured I'd return the favor, if I could," said MPD officer Jacob Young.

Midlanders also came out to show their appreciation.

“I always willing to give,” said Midland resident John Echols.

To donate blood go to these United Blood Services locations:

706 North Midkiff Road, Midland, TX? - (432) 520-4592

3952 East 42nd Street, Odessa, TX? - (432) 367-1840
