It's summertime in West Texas and that means one thing...it's hot! Temperatures continue to rise over 100 degrees, and many are searching for ways to escape from the heat. Well nothing is more satisfying than a refreshing beverage on a hot day, and there's numerous places in town that are popular summertime spots because they offer a variety of drinks to help you cool down. We found a couple of different places throughout town that are helping Midlanders stay cool even in the midst of this brutal summer heat.
"We opened the Eskimo Hut in April of 2002. We do daiquiris and margaritas to go. We focus on tobacco, beer, other convenience store items: chips, candy bars, stuff like that. But really we focus on service. We have employees that walk out to your car to help you get the products so you don't have to get out of the cars," Cody Reeves, CEO of Eskimo Hut, said.
And the summer months are extremely profitable for the Eskimo Hut. Reeves said their sales increase 25 percent in the heat of summertime.
"It is our prime season. All of our daiquiris and margaritas, or adult snow cones as we like to call them, are the frozen drinks. Alcohol based coladas, margaritas...they do well in the summer as it is our prime season," Reeves said.
Just down the road...Bahama Bucks is celebrating 20 years of business. Summer is also their busiest time of year because almost all of their drinks are icy cold.
"We have over 90 flavors in normal flavors. We have our sugar free flavors: zero carbs, zero calories, zero sugars, and we have our super sour flavors." garrett shock, Manager of Bahama Buck's, said.
Not only do they have over 90 different flavors, but they also have a shaded area so you can enjoy your treats before getting back out in the heat. And the shaded area always seems to be full...especially during the hottest part of the day.
"Around 4 o'clock we get a lot of moms with car pools coming through, and then later in the evening we start getting couples and families after dinner and stuff like that," Shock said.
The Eskimo Hut is opened Monday through Friday from 10 to midnight, Saturdays until 1am, and Sundays from noon to midnight. Bahama Buck's is opened Monday through Thursday from 11 to 10:30, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 to 11.
