Texas Dept. Of State Health Offers Tips To Stay Cool in the Heat

By: Mycah Glover
Updated: August 11, 2010
As temperatures push past 100 degrees in areas around the state, the Texas Department of State Health Services is offering up some tips to keep people safe in the Lone Star State.
The department recommends staying in an air conditioned area - either at home or in a public place like a mall or library. If that's not an option, they say to open windows, pull down the shades, and use fans and cross ventilation to cool down. They also recommend drinking plenty of water to keep hydrated.
The elderly, young children, and people with chronic diseases are most at risk for heat related illnesses.
