With school right around the corner, all drivers need to get ready to slow down around the school zones that have been dormant for the past few months.
Odessa Police and other law enforcement held a "Back-to-School, Slow-Down" rally Monday morning. The event reminded drivers that when the kids head back to class, they need to slow down and pay closer attention.
"The kids are going to be out and about, especially in the neighborhoods, walking to school in crosswalsk," said ECISD Police Lt. Mark Rowden. "We're trying to remind people that school zones will be coming back, coming back active."
Rowden also reminded drivers that it is illegal to talk on your cell phone in school zones. Anyone who breaks school zone driving laws could get a ticket for up to $200.
