New information about the oil rig explosion that happened in Martin County this morning, the names of the two victims involved in the accident have been released. Officials say Fernando Zamor and Abel Garcia were both air-lifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock after the accident.

After speaking with Martin County Emergency Management Coordinator. They're calling what happened an accident; an accident that left two basic energy employees with 70 to 80 percent of their bodies severely burned.

"This is a very uncommon occurrence they have thousands off these jobs going on through out the area, a very rare thing that happened," says Martin County Emergency Management Coordinator, Ashley Borgstedte.

It's rare because gas is always present out in the field. So, what caused a diesel truck to explode remains a question mark. The accident happened in Martin County, near the intersection of FM 26 and County Road 3900.

"They were working on the well and they had a gas pocket form and unfortunately it made its way to the diesel trucks," says Borgstedte.

Diesel fuel doesn't combust, so what ignited to cause the explosion?

"The best that we can figure is that there was no wind, it was down in the valley, gas is heavier than air and it just settled, it was a bad deal, a pure accident," says Borgstedte.

The two Basic Energy workers were the only ones injured from the explosion.

"I don't know which one was burned more severe," says Borgstedte.

Along with responding to the accident, Martin County Emergency Management also has to determine if there was any criminal activity, which there was not. Also, OSHA has been called out to investigate what happened.
