Highways are some of the most dangerous roads around, but they seem to be getting safer in the Lone Star State.
There were 388 fewer fatalities on Texas highways in 2009 than there were in 2008. Those numbers represent an 11 percent decrease in deaths on the highways
TXDOT has devoted 1.2 billion dollars to fixing dangerous stretches of Texas' highways in recent years. The agency says those improvements, along with campaigns to encourage seat belt use and stop drunk driving, have saved lives on the highways.
