A fugitive from Newton County has been arrested in Odessa. Ace Allen Kretzer was wanted for 2 counts of sexual of a child, the said victims 7 and 9.
Newton County is on the other side of the state…all the way in East Texas. You might be wondering why Kretzer was in West Texas. Turns out Kretzer may have a girlfriend from Odessa and when he was spotted he was picking up her two kids from elementary school.
"The U.S. Marshals contacted us because of leads they had that connected students within our school district to a fugitive they were trying to locate," explains Lt. Mark Rowden with ECISD Police.
Through their investigation, they believed Krezter was in Odessa staying with his girlfriend who happened to live right across the street from Goliad Elementary.
"We assisted them in setting up an operational plan in order to make an apprehension in the safest way," says Rowden.
Both the Marshal's and ECISD Police, closely monitored Kretzer's alleged girlfriend's house and on Wednesday afternoon, he came out the front door. That's when officers watched their suspect walk across the street and apparently pick up his girlfriends kids at Goliad Elementary.
"At that particular time, when he was located, it was dismissal time for Goliad Elementary," says Rowden.
Officers waited to strike until the coast was clear and all kids were safe, not in harms way.
"The arrest was made with out incident it was a great opportunity for cooperation between the district police department and the U.S. Marshals," comments Rowden.
Kretzer is being held at the Ector County Detention Center at this time.
