Trying to take care of your family and work a full time job is hard enough, then add school into the mix and you talking a near impossible balancing act. However for some UTPB students, the impossible just became…Well, Possible!
It's been a long time coming for an on-campus day care center at UTPB, but kids were enjoying their first day at the new center.
"First day on campus, they said it's coming next year, I started last spring and from that day forward I was like 'where do I fill out the paperwork, where's the waiting list’," explains UTPB Student and Parent, John Richard.
For John and his wife, they balance everything from kids, to full time jobs and school. This day-care center was the relief they needed.
"I get to go home and study rather than having to, two years old running around, screaming and yelling. It gives us a break to concentrate rather than doing it at midnight after the kids are in bed," says John.
Another perk to the center, parents can stop in anytime.
"They'll have time to come visit them during their lunch breaks, breaks between their schedule, so it will work out, it will work out," says Director of the Child Care Center, Celina Vasquez.
This day care operates like most and kids do more than just play.
"We are insisting on a curriculum that we've purchased, so it’s kind of like a little preschool for them. They're learning while their here, they're not just being babysat, they're learning," explains Susan Lara, Vice President of Student Services at UTPB.
The day-care officially opened today, but it's in a temporary location while the new location is being built.
