Hundreds of animals are left on the street to suffer every day.
To help fix the problem, the City of Midland Animal Services Department and the Midland Humane Society are teaming up with PetSmart for an adoption event this weekend.
"The Humane Coalition is taking our adoptable animals to PetSmart to save them the hassle of coming down here," Director of Animal Services Paul O'Neill told Big 2. "A lot of people want a shelter pet, but they don't want to come to the shelter. It's kind of depressing to them."
The adoption event kicked off Friday morning and will continue through Sunday. Anyone interested should head to PetSmart off of Loop 250 in Midland.
