This week is National Senior Corps Week, honoring seniors and the numerous ways they help enhance the Permian Basin. And there are a lot more of those volunteers than you might expect.
"We have over 1,000 in Midland that give over 200,000 hours of service," Community and Senior Services' Kobi Nix told Big 2. "That's anything from meals on wheels, to habitat for humanity, and of course our Foster Grandparents"
Foster grandparents go to local schools and provide tutoring and other help for children. There is also the Senior Companion Program, where volunteers spend time with homebound seniors and provide other help for them as needed.
