"They're saying we went over there. How can we come over here and you all come so deep to our house? We ain't tryin' to start nothing, but we ain't gonna back down neither," a Big Spring resident said in reference to a fight that took place over the weekend. More than 20 people got involved, but only one person has been arrested.

Big Spring has had a variety of problems in the past few years...from drugs to drive-by's and everything in between. This weekend it was a fight. Four people were stabbed, one was arrested, and Big Spring police are still trying to figure out how it started.

At first glance, Sycamore Street is a seemingly peaceful neighborhood. Residents help their neighbors with groceries, children play by the street, and construction projects are in full swing. But over the weekend...things were far from peaceful.

"1:50 am Sunday morning, our officers responded to the 1500 Block of Sycamore in reference to a fight in progress. Supposed to have been about 20 subjects fighting," Sgt. Tony Everett, with Big Spring PD, said.

"They came over there and started stuff with them, and one thing lead to another, and that was it. That's the end of the story," Brianna Graham, a nearby resident, said.

But that's actually just the beginning of the story.

"Had four people show up to the emergency room by private vehicle with various injuries. So far as we know...all of them were caused by knives," Everett said.

Residents that live along Sycamore Street say the area is full of troublemakers.

"It's got it's bad points. A lot of fighting...a lot of gangsters around here," Michael Akin, a nearby resident, said.

So what is it about this area that causes problems?

"There's more drugs being dealt on that end of the street than probably all of Big Spring. It's actually known for that," Christopher Jordan, a nearby resident, said.

“I'm not gonna sit and say it's worse than other parts of town or better or better than other parts of town," Everett said.

One of the men involved, Rene Rodriguez, was arrested after witnesses said he stabbed at least one person. He's charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Of the four that were stabbed, three have been released while one, Anthony Yanez, remains in the hospital. He's been transported to Lubbock with a stab wound to the back, but Everett said he should recover. The investigation into all of this continues.
