UPDATE: Head on Collision Kills Two, Injures Five

    A head on collision along TX 191 left two people dead and sent five others to the hospital early Tuesday morning.
    This collision happened after midnight one mile west of Deauville Blvd west of Midland. Joel Tavarez, 22, was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of the highway when his Cadillac hit a Ford Taurus head on.
    Jenna Vela, 21, who was driving the Taurus, was killed instantly. Perry Jeffery, 23, who was riding in the passenger seat, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Two young girls in that vehicle were airlifted to Lubbock with critical injuries.
    A Chevy Aveo was also hit. Two people in that car went to the hospital with minor injuries.
    Tavarez was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital to be treated. He was then arrested and charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault .
