Seliger Speaks at Luncheon in Midland

    Texas senator Kel Seliger attended a Midland County Republican Women's luncheon Wednesday. He discussed a wide range of issues affecting our nation and what Texas is doing about it.

 There one of the reasons republicans have a majority in the legislature," Seliger said.
    One topic of conversation was the recent UT shootings.
    "So immediate and thorough was the response of the university in emailing and texting students and faculty to get off of campus or not to come to campus that it cut down the possibility of death or injury." said Seliger.
    But what is not being handled effectively in Seliger's opinion is the recent funeral protests that are making headlines. Christian church groups continue to picket outside military funerals as part of the chruch's anti-gay rights philosophy. The state senator hopes to prevent these demonstrations in Texas.
    "We did what we could do in Texas and we did a bill, in which i was a co-author, that said that any demonstration has to say so far from a funeral route or procession, said Seliger. "Have any demonstration you want express any horrible sentiment you want to, but you don't have necesarily the right to do it in the face of a bereaved family."
    As far as the Permian Basin is concerned. Seliger will continue to fight for the oil business in Austin.
    "My job because I represent an area where there is so many expertise and experience in the oil industry and
I need to take that message to Austin, that we need not to handicap the oil and gas industry, because it is going to help us address a lot of challenges that Texas is going to have in the future," he said.
    Seliger also urged people to head to the polls this November to vote in the upcoming election.
