There's an update on a fatal highway accident in Midland from earlier this week.
The crash on Highway 191 killed Perry Jeffery and Jenna Vela. Their two young children were also in the car when it happened. They were flown to a Lubbock hospital with critical injuries.
The 2 year-old has now been upgraded from intensive care, while the 1 year-old remains in critical condition.
The accident happened when 22-year-old Joel Tavarez was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of the highway. His Cadillac hit the Ford Taurus carrying the Jeffrey family head on. He's now behind bars, charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault.
Alamo Heights Baptist Church is trying to raise money to help support those two young girls as they undergo treatment. The family had apparently been going through a financial hardship, and the children were not insured. Anyone who'd like to help can stop by Alamo Heights Baptist Church on Midland Drive, or give them a call at 432-697-3101.
