The countdown to the 2010 Permian Basin International Oil Show is officially underway. This year marks the 70th anniversary for the Permian Basin International Oil Show.

It all started in 1940 with a mere 35 vendors. It's managed not only to survive 70 years worth of booms and busts, but with over 700 exhibits at this year's show, it's bigger and better than ever before.

PBIOS President Douglas Duff says it's a lot like the West Texas oil industry. "The Permian Basin is a resiliant area. We've always been that way. Lots of booms and busts. We all know about them."

The Permian Basin International Oil Show is the biggest and best show of it's kind. And every other year, it brings in people eager to see the latest and greatest industry advances from all over the globe. "They'll see the newest in technology that's offered'" says Duff. "People bring things that are just off the drawing board. We have some of the best engineering, the best products in the world."

Needless to say, a lot of business will be done this week. According to Duff, "There's more networking that's done here in the next three days than you could probably accomplish in a year."

But petroleum companies aren't the only ones that will benefit. In fact, our local economy already has. "Oh, it's huge. We've had the hotels filled up for six months. Big Spring, everything in Midland, Andrews and we've had a lot of new hotels built, and it's still not enough," says Duff.
