Many remodeling projects involve relocating or building one or more interior walls. Building a non-bearing interior wall is relatively easy, requiring just basic carpentry skills and tools.

You first need to decide what kind of wood that you are going to in framing your interior wall sills. So, is important to know the different types of woods that can be used for this project. There are basically four types of wood for this project: hardboard, laminated veneer lumber, laminated strand lumber and parallel strand lumber.

Different Types of Wood:
Hardboard
High-density fiberboard is a type of engineered wood product that is similar to medium-density fiberboard and particle board, except that it is stronger and harder because of the highly compressed, exploded wood it is made of. It is the most common wood used in interior wall sills because it doesn't crack or split. It is produced by either a dry or wet process. Dry-processed hardboard has smooth sides while wet-processed has only one smooth side.

Laminated Veneer Lumber
Laminated veneer lumber is another type of wood used in framing interior sills. It has multiple layers of wood glued together with adhesives. It is straight, strong and uniform, making it less likely to warp, twist, shrink and bow. Aside from being used in framing interior wall sills, it is also typically used for beams and as an edge-forming material.

Laminated Strand Lumber
Laminated strand lumber is made of strips of wood that may be too weak, small or cut improperly. Aside from being used in framing interior wall sills, it can also be used for sill plates, door cores and other woodworking applications.

Parallel Strand Lumber
Parallel strand lumber is a type of manufactured wood often used in wood-framed construction, particularly in framing interior wall sills. This type of wood is made of long and thin strips of wood coated with waterproof resin glue. Parallel strand lumber is a straight and stable type of wood with uniform strength and density throughout.
