If you walked outside today, you might have noticed all the winds.
Fire crews in Crane have already been out, fighting two major grassfires.
One burned almost 40 acres. And more grassfires are possible.
The best way to prevent fires is to make sure a fire doesn't start in the first place.
And on these windy days ahead it is important to make sure Midlanders educate themselves on what they can do to avoid flames.
"Grassfires are pretty scary and especially if you get caught in them," said Lyn Fite the President/CEO of Fite & Fire Safety.
Fite Fire & Safety is a company specializing in protecting the Basin.
And this time of year its important to help fire fighters in their battle against burning grass.
"This is one of those days when we have concentrated winds and grassfires are started on the interesate," said Fite.
One reason: cigarettes
"Tell people not to throw cigaraettes out there window," said Fite.
The embers in cigarettes can easily start fires. Thats why it is best to put them out.
Also burning trash on days like this is not a good idea.
But the best way to prevent fires is...
"Be aware of your surrondings...look for cumbostable products anything that could light that product," said Fite.
Also it is best to keep fire extinguishers handy just in case a flame erupts.
If you see a grassfire started on the road pull over and report your location to the police.
