IRAAN -- A Pecos County oil well is leaking dangerous gas fumes, and TXDOT is considering closing down a road near Iraan as a precaution.
The Kinder Morgan well in the Yates Oil Field west of Iraan reported leaking H2S gas fumes at 9:45 AM Tuesday. No one was injured because of the leak, and law enforcement was able to isolate it. They continue to investigate what cause the situation.
Meanwhile, TXDOT is monitoring TX 349 for high concentrations of the gas, and they could close it at the intersection of U.S. 190 near Iraan. TXDOT wants drivers to take alternate routes around Iraan and Interstate 10, since the winds could change at any time and the leaking gases are deadly.
